New Video Component Added to RightTurn Toolbox
Friday, July 18, 2008

RightTurn successfully launched a new video component called hwdVideoShare on the www.laicc.net and a few subsequent regional pages (www.thecentralregion.com and www.ministeriolatino.com). One of the main benefits of this component is that it works well with their dedicated server capabilities so they can utilize ffmpeg and other compression tools for a YouTube-like video experience for their registered site users.

Here's a list of a few of the features:

  • Powerful PERL upload script with multiple file extensions allowed (wmv, mov, mpg, mpeg, avi and more)
  • Compression to flash (.flv) happens after upload via a cron job automatically every 5 minutes for all videos
  • Thumbnails generated on-the-fly and can be reset if a different scene is desired
  • Rating, add to favorites, embed links, direct links, and comments all enabled
  • Tagging of each video allows for rapid search results
  • View full screen
  • Add YouTube/Google/GodTube videos as if they were individual videos - allows the site to become a clearinghouse for all videos relevant to the group
  • Unique logo visible on the player
  • "Featured" videos stay at the top of the list
  • Multiple categories and groups available
